Cats sometimes come to their owners and do cute things such as showing their butt and asking for patting. Why do cats like butt pats? Is there anywhere else we can pet? Let’s find out.
No 1. To Show Affection
Cats might consider showing their bum as a weakness. It's because they can't see their own bums and they are vulnerable to backside attacks.
If your cat lifts her butt to you, it means she trusts you a lot. If she asks for butt patting, it means that you are the safe and intimate one.
No 2. To Feel Good
Around the butt and the tailbone are sensitive areas with nerves that connect to the genitals.
So, patting your cat’s butt will make her feel good. But, since this is a sensitive area with many nerve endings, be careful not to touch her so hard.
No 3. To Express Satisfaction
When your cat is happy, she may want you to pet her butt.
For example, when she gets happy and satisfied with urinating, or passing stools, she might raise her bum.
No 4. To Mark Territory
There are pheromone glands near the butt. If you touch your cat, you will get her pheromones.
If she is possessive of you and territorial, she would like getting petted. In addition, cats have more favorite touching points.
Where To Pet A Cat
No 1. The Shoulder
Cats have small collarbones. So, when they look down for food or drink, or look up to see their owners, they can feel a strain on their neck or shoulders. The shoulders can get lumped.
You can gently pat their shoulders. Slowly massage the shoulder and the front legs in small circles.
No 2. The Ears
Gently press or massage around the ears. That can make your cat feel good.
You can also check for ticks or earwax in her ears.
No 3. The Chin
Gently rub or scratch her chin with your fingertips. It could be one of her favorite points. Moreover, she may like the way you press softly from under the chin to the neck. Or you can scratch around her chin and cheeks.
She can be satisfied and happy. She might purr.
