No 1. Cats’ Eyes Tell Their Emotions
Cats with narrowed pupils may be excited.
They can be excited and content by cat grass or hunting play. Or they can be excited when they are alert and aggressive.
If your cat’s pupils are dilated, it means she is too startled and anxious due to things like thunder, strangers or going out.
Meantime, you need to read other body language through her ears, whiskers, etc.
No 2. Cat's Pupils Change Depending On Light
Cats’ pupils are narrowed to a slit vertically in bright light and are widely open in dark places.
Cats also have 5 times better night vision than us. So, they can see clearly in dark places.
No 3. Cats have different eye colors
Each cat has a slightly different eye color. This is because each cat has a different amount of melanin pigment.
With more melanin pigment, their eye colors change from green to dark yellow in the order of green, hazel, and amber.
Also, there are cats with two different colored eyes called odd-eyed. It’s because melanin is not equally distributed in each iris.
Odd eyed cats have no vision problem. But odd-eyed cats with white fur and a blue eye may have hearing problems.
No 4. Do All Kittens Have Blue Eyes?
All kittens have blue eyes. But they aren’t really blue. Kittens have less melanin in iris so they have blue eyes.
When they have more melanin around 4 months old, their eyes will change color.
If An Adult Cat's Eyes Change Color, She Can Be Sick
Adult cats’ eyes don't change color. If so, they can be sick. Mostly, cats’ eyes turn dark red, they may have uveitis.
