You can better understand your cat by listening to her meows. Cats’ meows can tell us about how they feel or whether they’re sick. Let’s learn about how to interpret your cat’s crying sounds.
No 1. Meow
A long, high-pitched meow is the most common cat sound we can hear.
It means cats want things like food and play. Or they wanna get attention from you.
No 2. Purr
When your cat is happy and satisfied, she can purr. It's a throaty rumble like your phone vibration.
If purring is high-pitched and loud, she is being a big baby. If purring is low-pitched and soft, she is stable and content.
No 3. Mate Calling
Cats can go into heat for about 2 to 3 weeks between February and April and June and August. At this period, female cats may cry like a baby. It’s loud and sharp.
They may cry endlessly like 3 mins or like all day and night.
No 4. Trill
When you’re back home, your cat may trill. This sound is inbetween a meow and purr. She may trill when she is excited and happy to see you.
No 5. Chatter
When cats get excited to see prey, they would moan and chatter their teeth.
Some people say that indoor cats chatter to express their frustration because they can't hunt but just watch prey.
No 6. Growl and Snarl
When your cat feels threatened and alert, she can make a deep, rumbling sound.
Then, she can be wary of external stimuli or curl up. Her fur may look spiky at the same time.
No 7. Hiss
Cats can hiss when they feel threatened, scared, or alert.
When your cat starts hissing, please keep your distance from her and let her calm down herself.
No 8. Howl
If your cat gets hurt, she can cry out. It's just like us screaming when we get hurt. If you hear loud meowing from her, check whether she is in pain.
No 9. Growl While Eating
Your cat can growl when eating because it’s yummy or she wanna keep her food from others.
