No 1. They Want To Express Affection
Generally, cats’ meowing sound signals negative emotions when low-pitched and positive emotions when high-pitched.
Cats also make a high-pitched meowing sound when expressing affection to their owners.
This sound is the same sound that baby kittens make to call their mommy cats. Cats who love their owners will also often make such sounds.
No 2. They Want To Befriend You
Cats who are territorial animals and are very independent hate it when someone enters their zone.
However, if there’s someone that they want to befriend, they would go up to him/her and make the meowing sound.
This is a behavior cats generally show amongst themselves, but if they do the same to a human, it means that they want to be friends.
No 3. They Are On Guard and Are Warning You
Cats make the meowing sound when they are on guard or are warning someone.
In this case, they would make a low-pitched crying sound. They would hiss, puff their tails, or pull their ears back while making the sound to show that they are on guard.
Since they may be very aggressive at this time, you should take caution.
No 4. They Have A Request To Make
Cats also make the meowing sound when they need to ask for something. If cats make this sound while tapping their empty cat bowls, they are asking for more food.
Besides this example, other similar situations include when they want to be petted by the owner or would like to play with him/her.
No 5. They Are Behaving Like A Baby
Cats who are purring and making the meowing (answering) sound are likely to be behaving like a baby.
In this case, it is best to be physically affectionate with them and pamper them.
No 6. They Are Sleep Talking
Cats sometimes make such sounds while sleeping. This can happen when they are completely relaxed while asleep.
As their bodies become relaxed, they naturally make such meowing sounds. It means that the cats consider their home as a safe place and trust their owner.
